Pumpkin Bat Hanging Ornament

He can't decide what he is, and that's the appeal: a round orange pumpkin body with a pair of felt wings spread out behind, half squash, half bat, entirely his own thing. At ten inches across the wings he's the largest character in the cast, and he knows it. This is the piece for the wide shelf, the centre of the table, the spot above the door that wants one bold thing rather than several small ones. He hangs, or he sits, and either way he holds the eye. Hand-shaped from wool, wings and all, with nothing in him that can crack. He folds his wings back into the box at the end of October and waits there, unbothered, for the next. Some people buy their Halloween anew each year. Some people keep this one, specifically, because a thing this odd and this well-made, found once, doesn't get topped. It just gets set out again. Made to be kept.
